Our fleeces are diverse! As well as showing the many natural shades of Shetland wool, they range from fine and tightly crimped (micron count in the lower 20s) to intermediate with looser crimps (micron count in the mid to higher 20s). Staple length also varies between fleeces, usually around 3 – 5 inches.
We don’t put coats on our sheep so the fleeces come with inevitable bits of vegetation. As much as possible is skirted out before weighing and selling the fleece. After skirting our fleeces average around 3 pounds.
From fine lace to an iconic Fair Isle sweater, there is a Shetland fleece suitable for almost every project. Shetland wool dyes beautifully, and overdyeing the natural colours produces wonderfully unique shades. Shetland wool is also good for felting.
If you have a particular colour or fleece type in mind let us know as soon as possible and we can select and photograph options for your consideration.
Fleeces can be picked up in Winnipeg or mailed at the buyer’s expense.
